Dear Students, Faculty, Researchers, Scholars and Members of the Academic Community, it is our distinct pleasure to welcome you to the Directorate of Research and Graduate Studies at the University of Excellence, Management and Business, Global Campus-Guyana (U.E.M.B.).

Research constitutes an indispensable pillar of university education. It advances knowledge, strengthens teaching and learning, informs professional practice, contributes to evidence-based decision-making, and enables universities to respond intelligently and constructively to the evolving challenges confronting societies, institutions, industries and communities. The Directorate of Research and Graduate Studies provides institutional leadership, coordination and oversight for the advancement of research, scholarship and graduate research across U.E.M.B. Working through the Research Committee, the Directorate supports the University in maintaining rigorous academic and research standards and in cultivating a culture in which intellectual inquiry, methodological competence, ethical research practice and scholarly dissemination are integral to institutional life.

The Directorate has responsibility for promoting and strengthening research across the University and for supporting the research components of graduate and postgraduate programmes, including Bachelor and Master of Business Administration programmes and other advanced academic programmes requiring capstone projects, research projects, theses, dissertations or comparable scholarly work. Through the Research Committee, the Directorate provides oversight and guidance in areas including research policy, research methodology, research ethics, academic integrity, research supervision, proposal development, scholarly writing, quality assurance, research evaluation and the dissemination of research findings. Particular emphasis is placed upon ensuring that student and faculty research demonstrates intellectual rigour, methodological coherence, evidentiary integrity, originality and relevance to contemporary academic, professional, institutional and societal concerns.

The Directorate further promotes collaboration among students, faculty members, research supervisors and external scholars, thereby encouraging interdisciplinary inquiry and the exchange of ideas across the University’s Faculties and academic disciplines. Through these activities, U.E.M.B. seeks not merely to transmit established knowledge, but also to participate meaningfully in its examination, application, development and advancement. An important dimension of our mandate is the continuing development of a vibrant institutional research culture. Accordingly, the Directorate encourages faculty and student scholarship, supports the production and publication of high-quality research, promotes responsible and ethical inquiry, and seeks opportunities for scholarly collaboration, conferences, research partnerships and other forms of academic engagement at the national, regional and international levels. Our commitment extends equally to the development of emerging researchers. Graduate students undertaking research at U.E.M.B. are expected to approach the research process with intellectual curiosity, analytical discipline and respect for the highest standards of academic integrity. Through appropriate supervision, guidance and institutional support, the University seeks to develop graduates who can investigate complex problems, evaluate evidence critically, formulate defensible conclusions and contribute intelligently to their respective professions and fields of study.

The Research Committee, under the leadership of its Director and Chair, serves as an important component of the University’s academic governance and quality-assurance framework. In collaboration with the University’s academic leadership, Faculties, Deans, lecturers and research supervisors, the Committee contributes to maintaining consistency, accountability and excellence in research conducted under the auspices of U.E.M.B. We therefore welcome our students, faculty, scholars, professional partners and wider academic community to engage actively with the Directorate of Research and Graduate Studies. Together, we aspire to strengthen U.E.M.B. as an institution distinguished not only by teaching and professional education, but also by credible scholarship, rigorous research, intellectual leadership and meaningful contributions to knowledge and societal development.
